The Abune Yoseph Community Lodge is the highest community lodge in Africa, located at 3,952m in a valley surrounded by peaks and ridges. The lodge, which is owned and operated by the local community, consists of a two circular bedroom buildings each with three single beds. There is also a separate sitting room, dining and kitchen area. There are designated camping grounds around the lodge as well as along the trekking routes. The lodge is available to guests regardless of whether they are camping or staying in the rooms.
It is also possible to combine a visit to Abune Yoseph with the TESFA community trekking route where you can stay in community managed guest houses built from local materials. Each site has a dinning room, a simple shower, and eco-toilet and community cooks.
